Sizzle Saturday Teaser from Hidden Magic

“Finn tells me you live in California.”

Rowan gave a small nod, but surprise made him ask, “Did he? I do, in LA. I don’t remember saying so to him.”

The gorgeous man beside him transferred his coffee cup to his other hand. “He saw the tags on your suitcase—LAX, pretty hard not to know where that is.” He brought his freed hand to Rowan’s jaw and kissed him.

Immediately, a wave of complete pleasure made Rowan’s eyes close. Owain’s kisses were absolute sex and magic. He drifted in the haze of sensation, and as Owain drew away, a sigh of deep pleasure escaped him.

“What do you do there?” His lover’s gentle voice caressed his ears.

Rowan collected his scattered wits.

“In LA? I take photographs, portraits of people, families. I’ve dreamed about making a film, but the truth is I don’t know if I really want to do it. Maybe I fell into it because I live in LA. I’m beginning to think I should let it go and find a job that provides a creative outlet instead, or maybe something earthy, like you and your reindeer farm.” He drank some coffee and leaned away to place the cup on the coffee table.

Owain did the same, placing his cup next to Rowan’s. “So the photography isn’t creative?”

“No, I have to stick to the studio’s rules about poses and lighting.”

Owain pulled Rowan into his arms. “What would you like to do?”

If you like elves, magic, and Yule traditions, if you want to watch two men fall for each other despite their very different outlooks on life, and if you’re looking for a cute read with lots of mystery, some drama, and a very passionate romance, then you will probably like this novella. It may be a slow burn, but it packs quite the emotional punch!

Snow, ancient spells, secret identities, and a romance are the exciting ingredients for this charming wintertime story set in rural England. The quirky characters pulled me in as much as the mystery that was hinted at from the beginning, but unfolded only gradually as Rowan and Owain got to know each other. Based on a tiny hint in the early part of the story I suspected what might be going on, and watching the author develop the story was very enjoyable.

Behind the Title with #gay #holiday #romance Make a Wish. Read a #teaser from the passage that gives the story its title. #MMromance #Christmas #magic @evernightpub @parr_books

It’s the day before Christmas Eve and gorgeous, happy, Nick Kringle is making deliveries on the main street of the city when a car breaks down at the intersection.

Amid the seasonal crowds and inclement weather, Dylan West gets out of his car and tries to push it to the side of the road.

Nick rushes to help him and comes face to face with the most delicious man he’s ever seen.

Dylan’s down on his luck, but Nick believes in magic.

Can wishes come true? You bet—especially if Nick Kringle has anything to do with it.

Read the passage that gives the story its title

Dylan drank his coffee and wandered around his apartment. He tidied everything. He took the card his mom had sent him and put it on his desk, a lonely sentinel of the season standing by his laptop. His parents lived so far away that they didn’t visit each other often and anyway, they generally took a vacation in warmer climes for Christmas and New Year. He showered and dressed in jeans, sweater, and his favorite old leather jacket. He looked around with a sigh. So much for Berry Brown letting me know early today about my interview. Guess I’ll go check on my car.

He left the apartment. The sun shone from a washed-out, blue sky. Frost glistened on the ground. Dylan’s breath misted in the crisp air. He hailed a cab at the end of the block. The kiosk served as a landmark for Dylan as he told the driver where to drop him, but his car was gone.

He recalled Nick’s words. ‘The city might tow it,’ and his own reply, ‘I wish they would.’ Maybe it’s in the city compound. Dylan shrugged. He went around the kiosk and looked along the magazines. Once upon a time Dylan loved to draw. His high school teachers praised his work. He visited all the galleries and hung out at exhibitions, drinking in the creative atmosphere with enjoyment. His teachers expected him to and he had considered studying art, but settled on business because it seemed more likely he’d find work with that bachelor degree. It pleased his dad, whose finance career made sure the family lived well. Dylan picked up a copy of Wallpaper and then Art in America. He paid for the magazines.

A coffee shop beckoned as someone opened the door and the inviting aroma of rich beans wafted onto the street. Dylan went in. He took a window seat and ordered Italian roast when the smiling server came to his table. A huge Christmas tree filled a corner of the café area and Dylan gazed at it for a few moments. The tinsel and baubles made a pretty, sparkling sight lit with circles of white fairy lights. He opened the copy of Wallpaper and turned the pages perusing the articles, until, to his surprise, a silver, 3D, page-size star popped up.

A smile sprang onto his face. A star. Make a wish, Dylan. It glittered at him. I wish for Nick. I want us to be lovers, friends, for as long as possible. I wish for him to fall in love with me. Is that more than one wish, yeah, but who knows, maybe one will come true?

His cell phone buzzed in his leather jacket pocket. Dylan fished it out. A message alert flashed on the screen. Dylan swiped the screen to check the message. Berry Brown. Regret to inform you have been unsuccessful this time. He stared at the message. It struck him as rude, letting an interviewee know by text, but then again, he’d received similar brush-offs.

The server arrived with his order and a complimentary chocolate for the season. Dylan smiled his thanks. The café’s warmth relaxed him. He took off his jacket and sipped at his coffee as he looked through his magazines. With every page turned, Dylan grew happier. He didn’t own any art materials now, but he wanted some. He remembered that the mall a few streets away housed a great art supply shop. Dylan experienced a surge of longing to go there and buy the things he’d need to start drawing again. He unwrapped the chocolate and bit into it. The lemon cream zinged on his taste buds. He drank the last mouthful of his coffee. He picked up the star and secured it in the magazine. I don’t want to lose that. In a split second, everything was brighter, lighter, and happier. He paid for his coffee and pulled on his jacket.

Midweek teaser from #gayromance #holiday story Hidden Magic @evernightpub Sizzle in the snow

Hidden Magic midweek teaser 18+ only

He walked quickly next door pulling on his jacket that he’d discarded in the warmth of the café. He strode through the garden store and plant nursery to the area where the Christmas trees stood and looked around. There was no sign of Owain, and he went out to the unsheltered part.

Owain was standing alone between rows of trees, his hands in his jacket pockets. Snow fell again in gentle swirls. It sprinkled Owain’s dark hair and face as he looked up into the sky. He seemed ephemeral then, as if lifted from the ground in order to catch the cold fractals on his skin for the sheer enjoyment of the touch.

Rowan watched for a couple of seconds, entranced. A strange feeling, a pull toward Owain, rose in him. He is so gorgeous.

The object of his admiration spun around and saw him. Rowan remembered feeling as if he’d been spying on Finn and Owain when the cab was stopped by the roadside the day before, and he took a deep breath. He felt that way again.

Owain walked toward him and Rowan shook off his awe. Used to moving quickly to intimacy with the men he liked in gay bars, taking swift, but safe sex that lifted his spirits for a night, Rowan moved into the style of behavior that brought him those encounters.

He shot Owain a smoldering look. “I wanted to make sure I’m not mistaken about you. You and I, we share the same … outlook on life.” Under the dark gaze of Owain’s sexy ebony eyes, Rowan lost the confidence that generally assured him of receiving at least kisses while pressed hard against a man and the wall of his favorite bar.

“Outlook?” Owain’s smile of greeting disappeared, and a frown creased his forehead along with his question.

“I mean we, we…” Rowan looked away from Owain’s handsome face trying to think what to do next. In a second he decided on an action that would bring or deny him Owain’s future company. He grabbed Owain’s jacket lapels and pulled him close, placing a kiss on his inviting lips without even considering if there was anyone to see.

The returning kiss told Rowan everything. Owain kissed him softly but with unmistakable hunger. He grasped Rowan’s arms, but as Rowan recalled they stood in a public place and drew away, Owain followed his mouth and stole another kiss. A thrill of pleasure coursed through Rowan adding to his haze of desire from the kiss, and his cock, half-erect, hardened at the delicious touch of Owain’s mouth.

He let go of Owain at the same time as Owain released him. “I’m right about our outlooks.”

Owain ran a fingertip over his lips before he answered. “Yes.”

Rowan’s stomach tightened with lust. He had no idea what to do next, because usually he and his conquest would tumble into a restroom or their parked car and suck each other’s cock.

Owain looked around quickly. “We can’t make out here.” He laughed.

The happy laughter and promise in the words relaxed Rowan. There’d be somewhere else to explore Owain’s hot body and time to share deeper kisses. He smiled. “Yeah, I should get back to my parents in the café. I’ll see you this evening.”

Owain’s eyes held his own for a moment, and Rowan experienced an unfamiliar depth of longing. I want him so much. I need to know him. He shook himself. “I’ll get going.” He forced himself to walk away, through the arch and out onto the street. That was intense. What’s it going to be like fucking with a guy like that? I can’t wait. Rowan discounted the way his heart filled with tenderness, and he concentrated on sex. He didn’t want a repeat of what happened with his ex.

The #warlock head of royal security is on the warpath #Halloween #teaser #gayromance #suspense #MMromance #fantasy #teaser @evernightpub

String of Pearls

The story is set in the same SciFi fantasy city as last year’s release, The Dreamboat.

Indigo Vaughn, the warlock head of security, features in the story along with a new cast of characters. When I wrote The Dreamboat, I already had the new characters in my head along with their story. Tobias Mars and Dante Pepper, the elite space pilots for the royal court, very nearly made an appearance in The Dreamboat, but because that story is about Indigo at last finding love, I decided they needed their own story.

Once upon a time Dante and Tobias were close to becoming lovers, but Dante met Viridian and fell in love. Tobias has yet to meet his love when String of Pearls, opens. He’s a man of high integrity, handsome, caring, but also longing for love and sex. String of Pearls is his love story.

String of Pearls

Elite space pilot, Tobias Mars is completing a special mission when he discovers Dreft Hann hiding and injured in the sand dunes of a water planet, recently ravaged by space pirates.

There’s instant attraction between the two men, but honorable Tobias believes the fact Dreft is in his care precludes him from showing his growing love for the young man. What’s worse is his shocking discovery of Dreft’s real identity. Even so, Tobias can’t deny his feelings for Dreft.

When head of royal security, powerful warlock, Indigo Vaughn discovers Dreft’s secret, he anticipates trouble.

As beautiful Dreft falls in love with Tobias and dreams of joining the elite pilot squad, trouble is brewing from someone in Dreft’s past.

Will love finally win with so many obstacles in Tobias and Dreft’s path?

Read the teaser

Viridian took the path that led to the rear of Dante’s dwelling and the garden door that always remained unlocked. No one expected anything but safety within the castle walls. He silently turned the white crystal handle and entered. He knew the layout of furniture in the room, and so Viridian made his way across it without glancing around. He’d negotiated the long leather couch, on his way to Dante’s bedchamber, when a voice sent surprise and fear spiking through his body.

“I thought you’d slip up one day.”

Viridian spun around to peer through the darkness at the man who lounged on a chair in the corner of the room. “Who are you and why are you in Dante Pepper’s home?” He put authority into his tone hoping this would confuse the man.

A soft sound reached him—a muffled click of fingers. A bright blue flash accompanied the click, and then the room lit up. Somehow, the man had lit the ceiling and floor lamps without using the panel of switches on the wall.

Viridian stared at the man who sat confidently, one leg crossed over the other and with a smile on his gorgeous face.

“Indigo Vaughn.” Viridian’s shoulders drooped. His voice dropped to a murmur.

The head of royal security and powerful warlock stood and walked toward him.

“Exactly right and you are?”

“Viridian Kaa, I’m Dante’s friend. Where is he?” Viridian glanced over his shoulder as the realization that Dante couldn’t be home sank in. His lover hadn’t rushed to his aid. The bedchamber door remained closed.

“Friends do not usually scale the courtyard walls and slink into homes in the night.”

Viridian sighed and sat heavily on the arm of the couch. “Dante likes me to surprise him. I’m not a robber, or, or worse.”

A flicker of emotion passed through Indigo Vaughn’s blue eyes. He studied Viridian for a long moment. “You’re a whore.”

Indignation made Viridian’s voice harsh. “No, no I am not. I’m Dante’s … his … his friend.”

Indigo’s eyes traveled over Viridian’s bare chest in an appraising gaze, and then he stared intently into his eyes. In calm measured tones, Indigo continued his scrutiny.

“Being a whore is not shameful, Viridian Kaa. Are you his lover? I want the truth. Without it, you won’t discover where Dante Pepper is tonight. Don’t be afraid. I will understand.” The blue eyes held sincerity.

Truly, because if this is a trick and Dante’s reputation is in any way tarnished I swear … I swear, warlock or not, you’ll regret it.”

Indigo laughed aloud. “You are his lover.”

“I am his lover. We’re lovers. I love him. There … now you know.”

“Dante Pepper is on a special mission to the next world. He’ll be back at dawn. If you aren’t going to wait for him here I’ll see you out of the grounds.”

“A special mission and he didn’t tell me. Is it dangerous? I’ll wait for him.”

“The package Dante is bringing from the other world is important to the queen. However, he should not be in danger.” Indigo gave him a thoughtful look. “I’ve suspected someone scaled the wall now and then, but since there was no crime associated with it I didn’t give it priority. You have no pattern to your visits, neither are they often, for a lover.”

“Dante comes to my home or we meet in Temptations.”

Viridian could tell the answer satisfied the head of security when he nodded.

“Right then, I’ll tell Dante about our meeting. Good night to you.” Indigo Vaughn strode across the room and out the door.

Viridian sighed with relief.

Meet #warlock Indigo Vaughn in this #gayromance #scifi #fantasy #teaser for #Halloween The Dreamboat @evernightpub The man pulled his hood down. “Indigo Vaughn.” Darian breathed the name.

Gorgeous, powerful warlock, Indigo Vaughn, sells his magic spells to people looking to make a dream come true. One night, as he gazes down on the city below from his sky barge, The Dreamboat, he wonders why, in centuries, his own wish for a man to love hasn’t materialized.

Beautiful, sexy, Darian O’Harr has suffered his fair share of misery. He’s a musician and learned long ago to sing for his supper. New to the city, he comes to Indigo seeking a spell that will bring him the love of a handsome man.

As soon as he sets eyes on Indigo, his heart races and his body betrays his pent up needs.

Here is the man of his dreams. What can Darian do as the warlock gathers his magic to cast a spell that will bring him another man?

Read the teaser.

His thoughts halted as a man stepped into his path halfway across the wooden bridge to the rear of the castle outer gardens. Shock sped through Darian. Time stood still filled only with sounds—the rush of the water beneath the bridge and the slap of a loose canvas door on a small marquee nearby. Darian expected robbery or a beating, or worse. He froze, waiting for the man to reveal his intentions.

The man pulled his hood down.

“Indigo Vaughn.” Darian breathed the name.

“I am. What are you doing here, lurking at the rear of the castle?”

Darian’s stomach lurched with attraction and fear. He gazed at Indigo. He delighted in the lush dark hair, just long enough to give the warlock a dashing air, the piercing ice-blue eyes glinting sapphire in the last shimmer of light from the fireworks, the hot muscled body beneath the warrior’s leather jerkin, and Darian’s cock shot into an erection. He took a chance. “I knew you’d be patrolling here and I’m desperate to see you, talk with you, as, as just men, who, who like each other.” His brave words faltered and his voice dropped to a whisper.

A long moment of silence followed.

He thought Indigo was about to strike him, but the handsome warlock raised his hand, took hold of Darian’s hood, and pushed it from his face.

“Darian O’Harr.” Surprise rang in Indigo’s voice.

“I mean what I say. I can’t stop thinking about you.”

Indigo ran his fingertips down Darian’s cheek and rubbed the pad of his thumb across his lips.

Darian’s breath caught. The touch closed his eyes as lust rampaged over him.

Indigo moved his hand to Darian’s head, running his fingers among Darian’s hair. Slowly he brought his head to Darian’s.

The air between their faces sparked with desire and Darian moved to meet Indigo’s lips. The kiss nearly brought Darian to his knees.

First Chapter Friday from, A Virtual Kiss #MMromance #gayromance #LGBTQ @evernightpub E. D. Parr @parr_books

First Chapter Friday

Chapter One

When Nate Hathaway saw a new Internet café, VR, and gaming venue open on the end of the street where he worked, butterflies started in his stomach. The renovations of the building lasted all spring and on the first day of summer, the venue, ‘Splat,’ held a grand opening. The company Nate worked for provided a small staff restaurant, and on the tables, the day before the venue was to open, brochures enticed people to use the gaming facilities and more. In small print beneath this word, Nate read the explanation and his breath caught.

‘Live your dreams in our private VR rooms.’

The memory of using VR before in an upmarket sex club located on the seamy side of the town where he’d vacationed two years before sent a thrill, tingling from his balls all the way up his body. Nate heaved a breath, and after looking around to check if anyone watched, he rolled the brochure into a tight cylindrical shape and slid it into the breast pocket of his jacket. It fit snugly alongside his company cell phone. Its presence made him smile. It lifted his spirits, flagging under being in a job he practically hated, and loneliness.

Nate hadn’t been on a date since he and Scottie Thompson, from the art department, split up five months before. Not that Nate loved Scottie. He’d enjoyed the guy’s company, and the sex was terrific. In fact, if he was honest with himself that was what he missed the most. The VR rooms might save him from that deprivation.

He picked up his coffee cup and sipped at the now cool beverage as he turned to gaze out of the window at the street. The restaurant gave a great view of the square two floors below. In the middle, a fountain sprayed sparkling water over a narrow circular pond, and around that, lush flowers grew in a vivid display of color and perfume. Sometimes a gardener tended the wide flowerbed, and Nate enjoyed watching as this young man dragged off his t-shirt in the sun and showed off his muscled body all the way down to mid-V of his hips. He was there that day.

A spike of sexual need ran through the bottom of Nate’s stomach. His cock stirred. The gardener straightened from pruning a woody plant, threw the cuttings into a woven sack a step away, then pushed the shears into the back pocket of his jeans. In what Nate thought had to be a purposeful move, the guy pulled off his t-shirt, lingering with his arms raised to show off his muscled torso. He took the tool from his pocket and stuffed his t-shirt into the vacant spot, before looking around, his hands on his delicious slim hips.

Nate’s cock jerked into a hard column as the gardener rearranged his jeans, so that the waistband lowered even farther down his flat stomach. Nate stared at him and the young man gazed at Nate in return. Does he know I’m here? He can’t. The windows are mirrored. Nah, I’m just horny and he’s fucking hot.

Nate shifted in his seat as the man bent to a shrub and offered a view of his hard ass in faded denim. It sent Nate into a spin. He attempted to push away his desires. He tried to will away his erection. He snatched up the bottle of spring water he’d intended taking back to his office from the table in front of him and drank. The cool liquid didn’t help...

Hunky Nate Hathaway can’t resist the lure of private Virtual Reality rooms in a new Internet café that opens on the street where he works. He’s lonely and intrigued by the VR program offering a boyfriend experience. After only one date, Nate is hooked on Jason, the sexy, kind VR character.

Jason Graeme is the computer wizard behind the hot new VR programs. He’s a risk taker, smart and gorgeous. He’s also the body model for the boyfriend. A twist of fate brings Nate to his attention. Determined to meet dishy Nate, he reveals who he is.

Passion sizzles between the two men as they fall in love.

Trouble is Nate’s not the only guy in town who uses the boyfriend experience.

Alex’s mouth went dry. His heart raced. The surprise and outright pleasure broadcast from the beast’s eyes sent spikes of sensation ricocheting over Alex’s body. #MMromance for midweek #teaser from Thief of Hearts #gayromance #LGBTQ @evernightpub

Thirty year old, lawyer, Blake Aster gazes from his high-rise office window wondering if this summer he’ll find love, but deep inside he doubts anyone will ever want him again. He can’t forget the scar he has running the length of his handsome face.

Hunky, daring, Alex Ryan is cleaning the building windows. Struck by the mythical beauty in the Blake’s looks, fun-loving Alex sets out to get Blake’s attention. Maybe a striptease outside Blake’s eighth floor window will do the trick.

Midweek Teaser

Two floors down, the car stopped. Someone had called the elevator. Alex straightened in case a crowd flowed in and he needed to edge closer to the side. When the doors opened and the beast entered, head down balancing a brief case and file box, Alex’s heart gave a huge thump. The beast was alone. Alex’s voice just about failed him and he croaked. “What floor, buddy?”

The beast raised his head from using his chin as a weight to stop the case slipping from the box. He gazed into Alex’s eyes.

Alex’s mouth went dry. His heart raced. The surprise and outright pleasure broadcast from the beast’s eyes sent spikes of sensation ricocheting over Alex’s body.

“Ground, thanks.” The beast’s voice, deep and low gave Alex tingles.

Alex pressed the button. I have eight floors to do something about being in this elevator alone with a guy who makes my ass clench, my cock throb, and my legs fuckin’ weak.

He had nothing to lose. Alex turned to the beast, took the case and box from his hands, and placed them on the floor. He grabbed the delicious guy’s jacket lapels and thrust him against the wall of the elevator car. There was no resistance.

The beast gazed into Alex’s eyes, his eyes dark with obvious desire.

Alex pinned the beast to the wall with his muscled body, reached across and slammed the stop button, and then with his heart hammering, kissed the man.

From E. D.

I loved writing this story. Alex the fun, sexy hero thinks nothing of wandering around on tall buildings both in his day job and in his clandestine antics at night.

Lovely Blake has the wrong idea about himself. The scar on his face is a heavy load for him to carry but hunky Alex sees the beauty before him and falls in love with Blake.

There are some red-hot love scenes but behind them is a love story to make you smile.

Alex isn’t who he first appears to be. Love changes him as much as it lifts Blake from his self-doubt.

I hope that you enjoy their story.

Chapter One

Saxon Dearing owned a pied-de-terre on the outskirts of the city. That summer, after much searching, he’d chosen it for the huge French windows along the studio balcony, and for the two skylights in the shape of triangular prisms, one of which surprised him with a view of stars on clear nights from his bed. Saxon had meant to buy an apartment closer to the central business district, but on seeing the light pouring into the rooms, its location had become secondary for Saxon. He reasoned that it was close enough to where he worked. He could still walk there, and Saxon intended only using the apartment three nights a week anyway. Impatient to secure the place, Saxon offered cash in settlement, and to his joy, the purchase sailed through rapidly. He was soon jingling the keys in his overcoat pocket as he rode the old-fashioned elevator in the building to his second home on the fourth floor of the converted warehouse. Saxon could have run up the carpeted stairs, but the ornate metal cage with its diamond shapes, and the carved oak half-doors of the elevator, gave him a surge of happiness as he used them.

The early autumn morning dawned gray. Thunder growled in the distance as Saxon drank his breakfast coffee and gazed out of the French windows. The view of the city resembled a black and white still, slowly being dappled with muted yellow and orange lights that flickered on as people arrived in the office blocks and lit their working environment.

Thursday meant Saxon wouldn’t stay in the studio apartment that night. He put the dishes he’d used the night before and his coffee mug into the dishwasher. After setting it going, he tidied the place before taking a shower and dressing. He emptied the laundry hamper that included the towel he’d used into his expensive washer-drier and threw in the detergent capsule. He never used any other cycle so he snapped the door closed and pressed the button that shone lime green telling him the machine was ready to go.

Saxon sang snatches of a favorite song as he pulled on his overcoat and picked up his grip bag and briefcase. Rain splattered noisily on the skylights and Saxon glanced up. Rivulets ran down the apex and disappeared. Saxon presumed guttering then carried the water away.

As he locked the door, a smile spread on his face. Saxon knew how lucky he was to leave the city behind for a whole three days each week. He worked from home on those days. Home in this instance, being the beach house up the coast given to him by his grandparents. Deciding against the elevator, Saxon ran down the stairs to the lobby of the building and froze as the severity of the downpour became clear. Rainwater pooled outside the door and practically a stream ran along the sidewalk. Hell, I better get a cab. He snatched his smartphone from his pocket and pressed the number he’d allocated to quick call for a taxi company.

****

There’d been no letup in the autumn storm all day. Twilight fell early and Saxon gazed from his office window at the lights from nearby office blocks undulating in the sheets of rain. Flood warnings popped up on his desktop from the two weather bureaus he subscribed to, bringing a frown to his face. He flicked his gaze back to the stock market figures with a sigh. Clearly, he’d be staying in the city at least that night, maybe longer. He worked until trading closed in New York, and then after calling a cab, he packed up to go home. Best go home and start work again. If I stay here, I might not get a cab later. London doesn’t close for a while anyway…

Corin received a call on his communicator just as he and Marcus loaded the crockery from their meal into the dishwasher. He looked over at Marcus as he listened to the order and gave his lover a stare to convey annoyance at the task they’d been given.

Marcus grinned in return at the silent communication and pressed the button on the panel to start the machine.

He leaned on the counter, arms folded, waiting for Corin.

Affection flowed over Corin as he looked at Marcus. He traced the handsome man’s face with appreciative eyes. He walked quickly to his lover, dropped the communicator onto the table as he passed, and slipped his hands around Marcus’s face. He kissed Marcus tenderly, until his lover grabbed his hips and thrust against him with a low moan. Passion surged through Corin and he rained hungry kisses on Marcus’s lips.

He broke to breathe and whisper. “We have a job over in the badlands. Some idiot’s crash landed over there.” Then he kissed Marcus again. He swept his hands along his lover’s shoulders and down his sides to pull off his lover’s soft shirt. Raw sexual need gripped him and he ran his fingers over Marcus’s muscled chest. Little sounds escaped him as Marcus returned his frantic kisses.

Chapter One

“Hey, Rowan, you might meet that special someone.”
Rowan made a face at his friend. “Unlikely—and if I did, what good would it be? He’d live in a different country. Here’s the real question. How am I going to stave off the boredom? There’ll be no parties, no special nights at our favorite gay bar—”

Jason shook his head as he interrupted Rowan. “I despair of you. Why go if that’s going to be your attitude?”

Rowan shrugged, knowing his friend had a valid point, but all the same, the optimistic comments from his group of friends over the last couple of months had begun to irritate him. When he needed a hug, empathy, and someone to let him wallow in misery for a while after his relationship break up, their constant attempts at cheerfulness hadn’t helped him heal his broken heart. He wished they’d just let him be gloomy for a few weeks, and as for him meeting someone special, Rowan had lost hope. It had taken so long to meet the man who’d finally broken his heart. Sex was easy to obtain, but love—not so much.
Rowan pushed his sandwich away and leaned back from the café table he shared with Jason. “I’m going to see my parents, and that will be good. They’ve wanted to take this vacation for a long time, and now Dad says he loves the place and wants to stay for a couple of months. I have to visit. It would be mean not to, but as for meeting someone I’ll expect nothing and that way I won’t be disappointed.”

Jason gave a loud sigh. “Look at this as an adventure. You might even get a white Christmas. You’ve never been farther than Palm Springs.”

Rowan tried to smile. “I know, but I’ve never wanted to. I’m happy here I kinda dread the eleven-hour flight.”

“Cowboy up, Rowan.” Jason grinned, then obviously giving up on the conversation he added, “Are you going to eat that sandwich, ’cos if not, let’s go. I’m meeting Paul at two.”

An unwelcome spike of jealousy at Jason’s mention of his husband made Rowan bow his head. “I’m not really hungry. Let’s go.” They’d already paid, so he stood and walked to the exit.

Jason followed him into the bright sunshine of the unseasonably hot LA day.
****
Owain Lovage closed the farm office gate and stepped away to survey his handiwork. The entire building glowed with Christmas lights. Snowflakes drifted in the frosty air, glistening as they fell through the beams of white sparkling light. A smile wreathed Owain’s face. He gazed past the building to the rows of stables where strings of festive lights entwined all the trees that lined the paths. Owain sighed with pleasure when each cloud of snowflakes changed color as they danced past the green, red, and blue lights.

It was only four PM, but an indigo sky heralded complete darkness and Owain had sent his staff home early. Owain expected the gentle fall of snow to turn heavy during the night. Two red deer returned to the farm having visited a nearby Christmas tree outlet to show off their antlers and pretend they led Santa’s sleigh on Christmas night. He gave them fresh straw and feed as he talked to them, went around the rest of the stables to check everything was perfect, and then he and three of the other staff had clambered around the office roof anchoring the seasonal lights. He hadn’t needed the help. In fact, if he’d wanted to, he could have gathered his magic and produced the decorations, but involving his staff was more fun. Owain didn’t use his magic much or often. He thought it was better that way.

He walked along the wide gravel drive to the car park, empty now of staff vehicles. His SUV stood under one of the silvery safety spotlights that perched on poles around the lot.

Owain lived at the end of the lane, but he’d needed to visit the village store at lunchtime or face having nothing for dinner that night, so he’d driven to work that morning. Sometimes Owain walked, and sometimes, when the snow was deep enough, he used his two huge and favorite red deer stags to pull a small sled. He loved those times, even though his colleagues thought it ostentatious. That was because they didn’t really know him, not the man who hid behind the frequently renewed glamor—the man whose pointed ears were pierced with rose-shaped diamonds, and whose dark hair held a streak of glowing silver. Owain belonged to the last family of elven people in the country. As far as he knew none of his family had seen or heard from any others in centuries.

He got into his car and glanced at his reflection in the mirror. He could see through the spell cast to disguise his true looks when he wanted to, but over the years Owain had become attached to his human appearance. It wasn’t so far from reality. He only dropped the glamor at family gatherings, just as the rest of his kin did. Yule was one of those times, and Owain smiled as he started the car. Snow layered on snow making white the dark gravel of the car lot, and Owain’s eyes twinkled. Nothing pleased him more than a white Christmas, although the hard body of a man naked in his arms came a close second.
